Dental Checkups & Cleanings

Checkups and cleanings are an important part of smile maintenance, and the American Dental Association recommends that all adults visit their dentist bi-annually, every six months. During this appointment, we’ll take X-rays and Dr. Patet will thoroughly examine your mouth in search of any signs of oral health problems. Then, one of our trusted hygienists will clear all plaque and tartar from your teeth to prevent problems from developing in the future. Before you head out, we’ll floss and polish your teeth, leaving your smile revitalized.

Oral Cancer Screening

At each of your checkups, Dr. Patet will conduct a thorough oral cancer screening in search of any signs of the disease, like rough red and white patches within the mouth. He’ll conduct a tactile and visual examination of your oral tissue, gums, tongue, neck, lips, and throat, and let you know if he finds any abnormalities. If any signs do raise concern, we’ll refer you for a biopsy and additional testing. For some patients, this screening can be lifesaving.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral developed by rocks and found in water sources, the air, and even fresh fruits and vegetables. Because it can strengthen tooth enamel, which is the outermost protective layer of teeth, it’s also added to oral hygiene products, like toothpaste. If we notice that you’re not receiving enough fluoride, we can supplement it by placing a fluoridated varnish on your teeth after your cleaning.

Dental Sealants

Cavities are one of the most common oral health issues, and when left untreated, they can grow into even larger problems like infections. If you’re at a higher risk of decay, we may recommend placing dental sealants, which are clear protective shields that we place over the biting surface of molars to keep food debris from accumulating in their pits and grooves. Once we brush on the sealant, we’ll harden it using a UV light, and with the proper care, the sealants can continue protecting your teeth for years to come.

Nightguards for Bruxism

Bruxism, also known as the nightly grinding and clenching of the teeth, is a common condition that affects millions of people in the nation. When this habit is left unchecked, it can cause damage to your teeth by grinding them down and eroding the enamel, leading to a higher risk of cavities, dental damage, and even tooth loss. To prevent this damage, Dr. Patet can fabricate a cushioning acrylic mouthguard to wear at night as you sleep, protecting your teeth from grinding against each other.
